Fall from grace in Lowell

After a bit of research, I found out that this church was Nuestra Señora Del Carmen, formerly St. Jean-Baptiste. According to this link, the church had a long history as part of Lowell’s vibrant Franco-American community, and changed parish names in 1993 or so, only to be sold by the Catholic Archdiocese in 2006.  A lot of these old churches end up getting converted into luxury condominiums, from what I’ve seen. It is a bit weird to think such a stately building with so much history and local significance could end up as housing, isn’t it? Not sure I could live in an ex-church condo.
