September 21.
I am a huge geek and I will not hide how excited I am for this game to come out (couldn’t hide it if I tried). I’ve been playing Civilization since it first came out in 1991 on DOS. The mods that the Civ fan community created for Civ 4 seriously boggled the mind, they were so ornate and extremely imaginative. From dark fantasy mods to space conquering to alternate Earth histories, people really ran wild with the Civ game engine and gave the game years of replay value. Fan generated! Totally for free! So I am psyched to hear that this newest iteration of my favorite game series builds on all that community contribution.
Also, it looks really cool!

What are your favorite Civ 4 mods? Any good dark fantasy mods or sci fi mods?
Fall from Heaven is really fun (sadly a bit unstable on my current system) but my favorite one comes standard with Beyond the Sword. It’s called Final Frontier (gee, wonder why I had to give that one a try) and it is SUCH a complete mod of the game that I actually barely recognize it as Civ. It’s like an entirely different game. Oh yeah! And Rhye’s and Fall — you get to pop in and out of actual Earth history and win by just making sure your civ completes its role in history. I have barely been able to do this one because my computer can’t handle really process it, but when I get my new computer I’ll be trying it ASAP.
I will admit to be super boring and liking a lot of the built-in historical mods, especially the ones where you get to be part of all the tribes in Mesoamerica. One where you have to capture enemy units to sacrifice I think was part of Civ 3 but they carried it over to Civ 4 and I love it!
